About Mark
Mark was born in Seattle and has lived in various cities in the area, including Issaquah, Marysville, Sultan, Kirkland and Bothell. During his school years, he worked for his step-father at his gas station and garage. Following high school, he went to work for the Snohomish County Juvenile Court at the Charles Denny Youth Center in Everett. This is where Mark knew he wanted to dedicate his life to helping others and making a difference for his community.
In 1973, Mark joined the Bellevue Police Department and began his professional career in law enforcement. While a police officer in Bellevue, he held positions as patrol officer, patrol supervisor, juvenile detective, narcotics detective, Lieutenant of Property Crimes, and Lieutenant of Major Crimes.
In 1990, Mark was selected to be the Chief of Police for the City of Bothell. During his tenure, Mark graduated from the Northwest Command College and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He spearheaded the movement that led to the construction of the new police building for the Bothell Police Department. In 2002, Mark retired from law enforcement and became the Director of Administrative Services for the City of Bothell. This position consolidated the former positions of Finance Director, City Treasurer, Director of Human Resources and Director of Information Technology.
Mark′s involvement with youth in the community is exemplified in the years that he spent coaching little league and select softball. He has served on the Board of the Northshore Little League and is a highly sought after pitching teacher at his fast-pitch pitching clinic. His volunteer efforts led the Northshore, Kenmore, and North Bothell Little Leagues to recognize him as Volunteer of the Year for his efforts teaching pitching to girls in our area.
Mark is a past member of several community organizations including: Make-A-Wish Foundation King County Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs
Mark was a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and served 10 years on their Civil Rights Committee. Mark also established the Bothell Holiday Food Drive, which has collected and distributed more than 100,000 pounds of food in 10 years through the Northshore Food Bank.
Mark and his wife, Debbie, have enjoyed raising five daughters in Bothell. Mark′s involvement in the community during that time has put him in touch with our needs and he will work hard to meet those needs by listening and by being a leader we can trust.
